Restaurant Tapenade & Abe Restaurant (Manila Day 1)
February 8, 2018
Anton’s YouTube channel:
0:26 Taipei to Manila – On Day 1 of our short trip to Manila, we took a flight from Taipei to Manila and arrived at night. We were already scheduled to stay at Discovery Primea Hotel, which was arranged by my friend Anton. Flight went well, we got our baggage, and then once we arrived in Manila, someone from the hotel was there to greet us and picked us up.
1:26 Discovery Primea Hotel – Discovery Primea is a hotel in the Makati area, and it’s a very nice and new hotel. They gave us a huge room.
3:53 Breakfast – We woke up the next morning, hungry and ready for breakfast. It wasn’t a buffet breakfast, but they had a salad bar and a menu that you could order from. I went with the beef wagyu tapa, a bed of rice topped with eggs and steak.
6:54 Restaurant Tapenade – After getting some work done, we went to meet the management of the hotel for lunch at Restaurant Tapenade, the signature restaurant at Discovery Primea, that serves Mediterranean food. The food was all excellent, but I especially enjoyed the stone baked feta cheese dish, and the angus rib eye steak. It was amazing. Read the full blog post:
11:56 Met up with Anton from – Anton has been a friend of mine for a long time, and he’s the one who invited us to Manial to speak at a conference. But in the afternoon we just met up with a class he was teaching.
12:50 Abe Restaurant – After the class we went to Abe Restaurant with Anton, known as one of the top indoor Filipino restaurants in Manila. The food, all of which Anton ordered, was all delicious. The lamb adobo was excellent, and I especially enjoyed the sinigang made with ripe guava and bangus fish. Food was really good, highly recommended.
Disclosure: We were invited to stay at Discovery Primea, so we didn’t pay for our stay. But everything in this video, and all thoughts are my own.

Travelling to Sydney and never been to Woolloomooloo? Here are some more interesting things about Woolloomooloo.
Woolloomooloo is a harbourside, inner-city eastern suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Woolloomooloo is 1.5 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Sydney. It is in a low-lying, former docklands area at the head of Woolloomooloo Bay, on Sydney Harbour. The Domain sits to the west, the locality of East Sydney is near the south-west corner of the suburb and the locality of Kings Cross is near the south-east corner. Potts Point is immediately to the east.
Woolloomooloo was originally a working-class district of Sydney and has only recently changed with the gentrification of the inner city areas of Sydney. The redevelopment of the waterfront, particularly the construction of the housing development on the Finger Wharf, has caused major change.

Woolloomooloo is home to the Finger Wharf, known for its remarkable size. It is 400 metres (1,310 ft) long and 63 m (210 ft) wide and stands on 3,600 piles.
The Sydney Harbour Trust built the Finger Wharf, or Woolloomooloo Wharf, between 1911 and 1915 with the charter to bring order to Sydney Harbour’s foreshore facilities. The wharf became the largest wooden structure in the world. The area’s commerce was dominated by shipping at the wharf and by the regular influx of sailors and officers from the Garden Island base of the Royal Australian Navy.
In the mid-1990s the wharf was renovated into 300 private residential apartments and a boutique hotel with 104 guest rooms. It also has several restaurants and bars, including the popular Water Bar, frequented by many visiting celebrities. At first the hotel was launched as “W Sydney – Woolloomooloo” and was the W Hotels brands’ first internationally launched property outside of the United States. The hotel’s licensing expired in 2007 and rebranded as “Blue Hotel”, managed by Taj Hotels & Resorts. Notable residents include actor Russell Crowe, who lives in a million penthouse which as a result has become famous in Australia and abroad and one of the most expensive and sought after places in the country. Another prominent resident is controversial former Australian radio presenter John Laws.
The Andrew “Boy” Charlton Pool, sits on the western side of Woolloomooloo Bay, amongst the Royal Botanic Gardens.
